WHERE WE'RE FROM

On September 17, 1999, while driving to the 1990 High Sierra Fall Century (HSFC), Dr. Mark Milford was involved in a single-vehicle accident. He died the following day, surrounded by his family and closest friends. The following year, the organizers of the HSFC dedicated the race to his memory. The two friends who were there that awful September day decided to ride that race remember Mark. They organized some 70 friends, colleagues, and acquaintances forming Ride to Remember, R2R, a cycling club with a mission: to raise funds for a scholarship which would preserve Mark's legacy and carry on his personal dedication to academic excellence and athleticism. That first year, those riders trained for over 20 weeks to complete the 96-mile HSFC, a ride made all the more difficult by it's average altitude of 7,000 feet and its 6,800 feet of climbing.

Since its inception, Ride to Remember has trained over 150 riders, and has been represented in the Fall Century for four consecutive years. The 2004 season saw R2R compete in El Tour de Tucson. 65 riders, some new, many returning, competed the 111 mile race.
