THIS WEEK'S RIDE

subject:Let's revive this puppy!!
Aloha all!
A very happy New Year to you all. My sincerest aplogies for letting the team/club languish in 2006, but my personal health issues precluded my involvement to the level I deemed appropriate.
Well, that's all water under the bridge. I'd like very much to get the team back to its 2005 level: the best cycling club in San Diego. Although the weather is less than ideal this week, I DO think that we can begin an early season ride schedule that we all can enjoy.
Rather than be the paternalistic guide, I welcome suggestions for late winter/early spring rides that would revive the comaraderie for which R2R is so well known. PLEASE post your ideas on the community pages. I'll do my best to collate and edit YOUR suggestions into a plan for riding that will get us ready for the summer.
I sincerely miss you all, and I REALLY miss the R2R ethos. Let's have some fun this year, and show San Diego that we deserve the "Best of" for bike teams in 2007.
The HSFC is only nine months away...who else wants to see the aspens turning as you scream down the 395 at 55 mph??
Half the ride is downhill...Care to join me?
So very warmly,
Tom

subject:This week's ride
Aloha all,
Apologies for the silence on this page. Many have been asking "Is there a ride this week?" The answer is "Yes", every week. Unless otherwise posted, there will be a ride leaving out of the parking lot south of the Hilton on East Mission Bay Drive EVERY Sunday at 8:00. I'm doing a bunch of travelling and will make it when I can, but hey, you guys don't need me..and that's a good thing. Stay tuned here for changes of venue which could occur any week. In the meantime, stay safe out there. Hammer on!
Banzai!

subject:Sunday's ride
Aloha all!
To give our North county friends a break, let's meet at Glenn Park Sunday at 8 - 8:30AM. The 30-ish miler will be up to Tamarack, inland to El Camino Real, down to La Costa Ave & back to Glenn Park. If it's less than 30, the extra climbing will make up for the shortfall. If it's more...sorry! For the 50 milers, you can go on to Oceanside & the San Luis Rey bike path, or head down the coast to Torrey Pines & back.
This is the second to last time I'll be using this e-mail list to announce the rides. After that, I'll use the e-mail list on our web site (www.R-2-R.org) in concert with the "This Week's Ride" on the site for a few-weeks until I transition to a strictly web-site based announcments.
As always your feedback & comments are welcome. See y'all out there Sunday.
Banzai!
Tom
PS. If any of you have a good East County 30 miler that isn't too crazy, kindly send me a detailed description of the route. Mahalo!

Aloha all!
OK, despite the fact it's Easter, I think we'll go ahead and get any and all inrterested folks out riding this weekend. Meet at the parking lot south of the Hilton on East Mission Bay Drive at 8:30. Looks like it'll be a familiar coastal ride..just for old time sake. These rides are all self-SAG'd so bring all your necessary accoutrements.
I'll communicate by e-mail for a week or two more, then we'll switch back to a web-based format.
See y'all Sunday. Stay safe out there.
Banzai!!

subject:Whither R2R?
Aloha all!
Yes, here indeed is a flash from the past. It's time to resuscitate and resurrect R2R! After a year in which I left the team a bit abandoned, I thought it might be a good idea (yes, I did hear a lot of requests to do so) get the club rolling (no pun) again.
I've also decided to change the format a bit. Instead of training for a specific event, I'd like to have us resemble a typical cycling club (don't get frightened yet), with weekly rides of fixed distances - say 30 and 50 miles throughout the year. This would allow folks to join us year-round, take a bunch of the pressure off those who have no desire to ride a century, and give us an opportunity to enjoy the collegiality R2R has been famous for.
To that end, please send me a description of your favorite 30-ish and 50-ish mile rides. They can begin anywhere in the county (should we rotate starting locations each week? I think that'd be ideal) and can be anywhere from easy (the south bay - Coronado ferry ride, flat, but breezy) to strenuous, but should avoid being killers (adding some optional punishment at the end is OK though :-)).
So break the beast out of the garage, clean it up, get some chain lube & chamois butter and let's get out there! I'd really like to get started in a couple weeks...say Sunday the 16th, and just to keep things from getting too confusing, let's look to start from our traditional Mission Bay location.
As always, your input is welcomed; it is after all, not MY club, it's ours. Feel free to e-mail me here, or more preferably, though the website (www.R-2-R.org), remember? And while there, get on that mailing list as I want to avoid using this one. Speaking of which, if you don't want to be on this list, please let me know...I anticipate I'll use this list until we're up & running again. After that, I'll be posting ride info on the "This Week's Ride" section of the website.
As always, hammer on, stay safe out there and remember, half the ride is downhill! BANZAI!!!
Tom
PS, I will post training grids for our usual centuries for those interested. I'd also like your input re a weekly spin session at a location tbd.
